Olympic medallists Emma Jorgensen and Isaquias Santos are the star names in the field for the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Sprint Under-23 and Junior World Championships in Romania.

The Rio 2016 podium finishers are among more than 900 athletes who will compete from tomorrow on Lake Budeasa near Pitesti.

Denmark's Jorgensen won K1 500 metres silver in the Brazilian city, finishing behind Hungary's Danuta Kozák.

Santos delighted the Brazilian crowd with three medals at his home Olympics, becoming the first athlete from his country to claim a triple haul from a single Games.

He won silver in the C1 1,000m, bronze in the C1 200m and another silver in the C2 100m with partner Erlon Silva.

Among champions back to defend their titles are 2015 K2 1,000m gold medallists Riley Fitzsimmons and Jordan Wood of Australia.

Hungarian trio Dora Lucz, Virag Balla and Balint Kopasz, and New Zealand's Aimee Fisher, could also impress after winning gold medals on the ICF World Cup circuit this year.

Heats and semi-finals will be held tomorrow and Friday (July 28) before finals on Saturday (July 29) and Sunday (July 30).

The event follows the Canoe Slalom Under-23 and Junior World Championships, held in Slovakian capital Bratislava earlier this month.
