World Para Swimming are inviting National Paralympic Committees to nominate one candidate for election to its Athlete Advisory Group (AAG) at the 2017 World Championships in Mexico City.
The mission of the AAG is to represent the views of all Para-swimming athletes, including all impairment types.
The aim is for equal gender representation and to make their voices heard within World Para Swimming.
Advice is also provided to the Sport Technical Committee (STC) and the World Para Swimming management team, with aims promoting a "healthy image" and "fair play".
Other duties are promoting and fostering the worldwide development of Para-swimming and attending or hosting athletes’ meetings at major sport competitions.
Candidates should have strong qualities of leadership, accomplishment, knowledge and respect, both on and off the field of play, and experience in and commitment to the advocacy of athlete-related issues.
World Para Swimming will also appoint a lead of the AAG, who will serve a four-year term from the start of 2018 to the end of 2021 and represent the AAG during STC meetings as requested.
The lead will also liaise on behalf of the AAG with the STC and the World Para Swimming management team.
The working language will be English and the majority of work will be conducted over e-mail.
The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2017.
The World Para Swimming Championships are due to be staged alongside the World Para Powerlifting Championships from September 30 to October 6.
The two events form part of a large Para Sport Festival in Mexico’s capital.
Around 360 of the world’s strongest Para-powerlifters from 65 countries will compete at the Juan de la Barrera Olympic Gymnasium.
More than 550 swimmers from 60 countries are expected at the Francisco Marquez Olympic Swimming Pool.
Scottish city Glasgow hosted the previous edition of the World Para Swimming Championships in 2015.
