The Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) has hosted the third meeting of the women leaders in sport at its headquarters in Buenos Aires.

The meeting was attended by women who currently hold positions of management or sports management in National Federations.

Among those fronting it was Dr Patricia Sangenis, President of the Women in Sport Commission.

She was joined by María Julia Garisoain, a former rower and member of the COA’s Athletes’ Commission, and Eva Szabo, an ex-shooter and current Women in Sport Committee member.

"For us, the support of all of you is very important because with your presence you justify our desire, our will and the decision of this Commission to work with each Federation that forms the Women in Sport Commission,” Sangenis, who has worked as a doctor at numerous Summer and Winter Olympic Games said.

"It is very important that we continue to take steps forward and we are here to support and give you advice.

"The goal is for these moments to be productive and provide us with tools for more and more women to become involved in sport."

Garisoain, who represented Argentina at the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Olympics, added: "Women have good tools and a great capacity.

"We have to focus on what we want to do, then devise a plan of objectives that we want to achieve and transcend."

Argentina won four medals at last year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, including three golds.

Paula Pareto won the women's 48 kilograms judo title, while Santiago Lange and Cecilia Carranza Saroli came out on top in the Nacra 17 sailing event.

There was also success for the country's men's hockey team.

Tennis player Juan Martín del Potro finished runner-up in the men's singles competition.
