Italy continued their excellent form on the final day of the World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Plovdiv to finish on top of the medals table with five victories.

They crossed the line first today to win the men's lightweight four after moving clear of the rest of the field by halfway.

Keeping up an impressive stroke rate, the crew of Alberto Di Seyssel, Riccardo Italiano, Sebastiano Galoforo and Giovanni Ficarra maintained their advantage to hold clear and win in 6min 06.540sec

"We raced how we expected," Galoforo said.

"We had a good start as usual, a great middle and we managed to get away from the others by pushing toward the end of the race."

United States finished strongly to overhaul fast-starting Indonesia and finish second in 6:07.89

Indonesia settled for the bronze medal in 6:09.41.

The Italians underlined their domination of the male lightweight divisions by claiming a second win in the double sculls event.

Antonio Vicino and Gabriel Soares, who set an under-23 world best time earlier this week, dominated to cross the line first in 6:19.570.

Christian Hagemann and Alexander Modest of Denmark crossed second in 6:20.340 and Rodrigo Conde Romero and Jordi Rodriguez claimed a bronze for Spain 0.14 seconds further back.
