Dutchman Ben Heijmeijer has been appointed the new chair of the Court of Arbitration for the International Luge Federation (FIL).

The former natural track luger was elected at the 65th FIL Congress in Romanian city Constanţa.

He was elected as the successor to Germany's Norbert Hiedl, who was simultaneously elected as the first FIL ethics officer.

The delegates also elected Russia’s Gennadi Rodionov as a member of the Court of Arbitration.

Germany’s Christian Krähe was elected unanimously as chair of the Committee for Legal Affairs, alongside members Andreas Ruetz of Austria and Alexander Schakhnazarov of Russia.

Hiedl will now be in charge of all ethics issues related to the sliding sport.

His election was mandated at the FIL's 2016 Congress in Lake Placid in the United States, where an ethics code of conduct was introduced.

This was developed by Krähe, who worked alongside Hiedl.
