Defending champions and hosts Canada continued their unbeaten record at the Men's Softball World Championships in Whitehorse with a straightforward victory over Dominican Republic.

The North American side are guaranteed to progress into the playoffs as they eased past their opponents 6-0 at the Pepsi Softball Centre.

It marked their sixth successive victory.

Australia also enjoyed a good day elsewhere in Pool A as they crushed Argentina 9-1.

Both teams have now secured four victories and two defeats.

United States now have a similar record after a 16-0 thrashing of Hong Kong.

South Africa also defeated winless India 6-2.

In Pool B, Venezuela recorded their fifth win of the tournament after proving too strong for Botswana.

They moved 5-0 ahead before eventually prevailing 7-1.

New Zealand and Japan each also moved onto 5-1 records for the tournament.

World number one's New Zealand recovered from a shock loss to Venezuela yesterday by beating Denmark 8-1.

Japan triumphed 9-1 against Czech Republic.

Turkey were thrashed 24-1 by Great Britain, but did manage a first run in World Championship history in a tournemant which marks their international debut.

Round-robin action will continue tomorrow.
