The Belau Wrestling Federation held a coaching course in Palau as a part of a bid to improve standards in the Pacific country.

Held in Koror, the level one course lasted for five days.

Ten coaches took part in all, including two women.

It is hoped that as well as boosting the skills of the coaches, more trainers will be encouraged to come forward.

"I learned that being a coach means taking huge steps by leading people who are following my every move," said Uilao Tarkong, a newly certified coach.

"Instead of getting nervous I am now confident leading and at the same time taking risk."

Palau has competed at every edition of the Summer Olympics since Sydney 2000 - sending wrestlers on three occasions.

At Rio 2016 in August, Florian Skilang Temengil contested the men's freestyle under-125kg division after receiving an invitation from the International Olympic Committee's Tripartite Commission.

He received a bye through the qualifying round before losing to Dániel Ligeti of Hungary.

Temengil also carried Palau's flag at the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

Belau is the name for the country's islands in the Palauan language.
