Defending champions and hosts Canada remain unbeaten at the Men's Softball World Championship as they cruised to an 8-3 win over Argentina in Whitehorse.

The Canadians were in fine form on the second day of the event and comfortably swept aside their South American opponents at the Pepsi Softball Centre.

A dominant third inning, where Canada scored six runs, proved to be the key to their dominant triumph in Pool A.

Argentina did try and mount an unlikely comeback, with Juan Cruz Zara hitting a home run in the sixth, but they never looked likely of overhauling the deficit.

The top ranked team in the world, New Zealand, made it two wins from two as they thrashed the Czech Republic 9-2 in five innings in Pool B.

Second seeds Japan are also unbeaten and have a 100 per cent record after they hammered Botswana 8-0 in the same pool.

The United States bounced back from their defeat to Argentina on the opening day by securing a narrow 2-1 win over Australia in a low-scoring Pool B clash.

Australia went ahead in the first inning before the US turned the contest on its head in the fourth.

The other nation to pick up their second win of the Championship was the Dominican Republic, who battled to an 8-6 victory over South Africa.

Hong Kong, who were thrashed 21-0 by the Dominican team yesterday, recovered with a 2-1 win against India in Pool A, while Denmark beat Britain 3-0 in Pool B.

The event in the Canadian city is due to continue tomorrow.
