Namibia will be able to take part in the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London after a late financial deal was arranged so they can travel to the event.

There had been uncertainty about their participation after the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) claimed they did not have the funds to finance the trip.

Disability Sport Namibia (DSN), however, have provided the necessary funding of NAD$470,000 (£27,000/$35,000/€31,000) to ensure the team's participation.

A team of five had been due to compete at the Championships in London, scheduled to open on Friday (July 14) and last until July 23.

But Johanna Benson, winner of two Paralympic medals at London 2012, including gold in the T37 200 metres, has had to withdraw through injury.

The team still includes, though, Ananias Shikongo and Johannes Nambala.

Shikongo won three medals at Rio 2016, including a gold in the T11 200m and bronze in the 100m and 400m.

Nambala, meanwhile, won Paralympic silver medals at Rio 2016 in the T13 100m and 400m.

Namibia finished equal 35th at the last World Para Athletics Championships in Doha in 2015.

They won a total of four medals, including a gold in the 400m for Nambala.

Two years earlier, at the Championships in Lyon, Nambala had won the T13 400m.
