International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach will be among the guests for the final day of action at the 2017 International Boxing Association (AIBA) World Championships in German city Hamburg.

Bach, who is from Germany, will present a gold medal to one of the event’s 10 champions on September 2.

A total of 280 boxers are due to compete at the Sporthalle arena, where competition is due to begin on August 25.

"As this year’s World Championships approach, Hamburg is ready to host the biggest edition of our flagship tournament to date, and it is fitting that the President of the IOC, Mr Thomas Bach, will be present to crown one of our new champions on September 2," AIBA President C K Wu said.

"As an IOC Executive Board member, I have been able to serve and promote boxing for nearly 30 years at an Olympic level, defending its interests as one of the world’s most popular sports, and this year’s World Championships will embody everything that AIBA has achieved for the sport in recent years."

Confirmation of Bach's attendance in Hamburg comes on the back him being invited as a guest to the Closing Ceremony of the recent World Taekwondo Championships in Muju in South Korea.

Last month, German car manufacturer Borgward become the main sponsor of the 2017 AIBA World Championships.

It followed the announcement of a deal with global sports giant Adidas to become the official sponsor of the event.

"The quality of sponsorships and partnerships with the likes of Adidas and Borgward that we have been able to put in place for Hamburg show the attractiveness of boxing’s values and its universal appeal around the world," Wu said.

Last month’s Oceania Boxing Confederation Boxing Championships was the last of five continental events that served as direct qualification routes to the 2017 World Championships.
