Japanese judokas continued their emphatic start to the International Judo Federation (IJF) Hohhot Grand Prix in China after sealing two more gold medals today.

After winning two of yesterday's five categories at the Inner Mongolia Stadium, Japan secured a further two titles today.

Miku Tashiro put her frustrations in missing out on a World Championships place behind her to win gold in the women's 63 kilograms event.

Tashiro, who won her only Grand Prix gold medal in Budapest in 2014, defeated Austria's Kathrin Unterwurzacher in the final.

The Japanese judoka led their head-to-head series 2-0 before today but fell behind to a waza-ari score and had to work hard to restore parity.

A mistake from the Austrian handed gold to the Japanese though as her European opponent was penalised for a leg grab with her third shido and was therefore disqualified.

The bronze medals were won by Italy's Edwige Gwend and Austria's Magdalena Krssakova.

Naeko Maeda then won Japan's second gold of the day in the women’s 70kg division.

In her first Grand Prix start, the 25-year-old defeated South Korea's Kim Seongyeon, who was eventually disqualified after receiving her third penalty for passivity.

Natascha Ausma of The Netherlands and Croatia’s Barbara Matic shared the bronze medals.

There was also action in two men's categories today with China's Saiyinjirigala triumphing on home soil in the 73kg event against former Pan American Championships winner Arthur Margelidon of Canada.

The capacity crowd were rooting for the local favourite and he did not disappoint as he secured the title with a waza-ari after 47sec in the golden score period.

Bronze medals were won by world number 13 Denis Iartcev of Russia and Iran's Mohammad Mohammadi Barimanlou.

London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Antoine Valois-Fortier of Canada won his first IJF World Judo Tour gold medal since 2015 at 81kg.

He celebrated Canada Day in the best possible fashion with a win over European champion Alan Khubetsov of Russia.

Hungary's Laszlo Csoknyai secured one of the bronze medals while Russia's European Championships bronze medallist Aslan Lappinagov claimed the other.

Action concludes tomorrow at the final IJF World Tour event before the World Championships taking place in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, due to begin on August 28.
