International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) President Ary Graça has announced a number of changes that he hopes will develop the sport worldwide through the organisation's "Nucleus Project".

The "Nucleus Project" is the new strategy for raising the professional standard of volleyball and aims to develop the sport in key markets.

This could then act as a model for other countries around the world, it is hoped.

Attending the General Assembly of the German National Volleyball Federation (DVV) in Hannover, Graça spoke of the FIVB's plan to support core nations with more World Tour events and increased television exposure.

It is hoped that the growth of these nations will ultimately serve the development of smaller countries and volleyball worldwide.

Developing nations will be given opportunities to learn about hosting world class events.

"The FIVB considers Germany a strong member of the volleyball family," said Graça.

"The Nucleus Project will be a big part of our work to take volleyball to the next level, and your strength will serve as their inspiration."

The Brazilian also praised the "positive impact" that DVV President Thomas Krohne has brought to the sport, as well as the appointment of Julius Brink to the FIVB Athletes' Commission.

He also praised the success of Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst, winner of the women’s Olympic beach volleyball gold medal at Rio 2016.

Ludwig and Walkenhorst's gold medal followed the success of Brink and Jonas Reckermann in the men's event at London 2012.

"For Germany to win gold medals at two Olympic Games in a row shows that your success is not an accident," Graça said.

"It was such a privilege to see Laura and Kira win, they are wonderful athletes and have inspired girls to be champions of the future.

"I would like to salute the work of President Krohne, who has been successful in following through with his vision and strategy for volleyball in Germany."
