Spain have been crowned continental champions after winning the final of the 2017 EuroBasket Women tournament in the Czech Republic.

The Spaniards claimed a 71-55 victory over France at the Prague Arena, where all of today's action took place.

It was the third time the two nations have met in the final.

On all three occasions, in 1993, 2013 and, now this evening, Spain have come out on top.

The tournament's Most Valuable Player Alba Torrens scored 10 points in the opening period to help Spain establish an early lead that they never gave up.

She finished with 18 points, Sancho Lyttle added 19 while Anna Cruz contributed 12 points and 5 assists.

Elsewhere today, Belgium claimed a comfortable 78-45 win over Greece in the bronze medal match to win the country's first medal at this tournament.

"I told the players before the game that we have a great opportunity and we need to take it," said Belgian head coach Philip Mestdagh.

"Maybe next time we will have other teams in our group or maybe we will have injuries.

"This is the first time and we surprised everyone - I'm sure next time people will count on us, because they will know that Belgium have a good team."

In today's classification matches Turkey took fifth after they beat Latvia 72-63 while Italy secured seventh place with a 71-54 win.
