Karateka’s across the world got involved in Olympic Day celebrations as they marked the annual event with a series of events.

The day is held every year on June 23 to mark the date when Pierre de Coubertin founded the international Olympic Movement in 1894.

Thousands of events to celebrate the day were held across the world and among them where the Moldovan Karate National Federation, who took part in an Olympic Fest organised in Grand National Assembly Square in Chisinau by the country’s National Olympic Committee.

As part of the event, young karatekas joined with the nation’s top competitors to perform a series of katas and kumites.

Demonstrations were also conducted by members of the Karate Federation of Nepal at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu.

Their show also helped promote the fact karate will feature on the Olympic programme for the first time when it appears at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

It will also be part of the schedule of next year’s Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.

In North America, around 200 karatekas in Canada went to the Junior National Training Camp held in Toronto to help celebrate the day.

A series of activities were also held across the United States by the USA National Karate Federation.
