Yi Chuwei of China claimed a hat-trick of gold medals in the women's 69 kilograms event at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Junior World Championships in Tokyo.

She claimed the overall victory by just five kilograms after posting a total of 230kg at the Ota City General Gymnasium in Japan's capital.

Yi's victory was assured after she placed first in both the snatch and clean and jerk, with best efforts of 104kg and 126kg respectively.

Rebekah Tiler of Great Britain finished second overall on 225kg but won bronzes in both snatch and clean and jerk, posting best attempts of 102kg and 123kg respectively.

Hanna Panova of Ukraine finished third in the final standings on 223kg after taking clean and jerk silver on 123kg.

Russia's Aleksandra Kozlova finished fifth overall but did manage a silver medal in the snatch event with a best lift of 103kg.

Fares Ibrahim of Qatar won today's 85kg men's event.

The 19-year-old, who placed seventh in this event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, secured an overall total of 353kg.

He improved on his total of 352kg which saw him take gold at last year's Asian Championships.

Ibrahim won the clean and jerk division with a best lift of 193kg and placed second in the snatch on 160kg.

Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sanchez of Venezuela took the silver medal overall on 348kg.

The South American took third in the snatch on 156kg and second in the clean and jerk with 192kg.

Third place overall went to Georgia's Revaz Davitadze on 347kg.

He won the snatch event on 162kg but plummeted to ninth in the clean and jerk phase.

Jhonatan Rivas Mosquera of Colombia finished fifth overall but took clean and jerk bronze with 191kg.
