The United States made a strong start to their campaign at the 2017 World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) World Championships of Beach Ultimate today, claiming two wins out of two in Pool A of the men’s competition in Royan.

Having opened play at the Atlantic Ocean resort with a 13-1 victory over Singapore, the US went on to beat Russia 13-4 in France.

Joining them at the top of the Pool A standings are Canada, who followed up a 13-4 win over Japan by edging Denmark 12-11.

In Pool B, The Philippines were one of three nations to register two victories today after defeating hosts France 11-7 and Australia by the same scoreline.

The other two nations to make perfect starts were New Zealand and Belgium with the former overcoming Estonia 11-7 and Italy 9-8, and the latter defeating Sweden 10-7 and Ireland 10-8.

Women’s action also got underway today with each team playing one round-robin match.

The US were among the winners in Pool A, beating Austria 13-3.

Canada defeated Australia 13-5, while Estonia overcame the United Arab Emirates 8-5 and Spain registered a 10-7 victory over Denmark. 

In Pool B, Russia beat France 9-3 and were joined in tasting success by Czech Republic, Latvia and Switzerland.

The Czechs beat Singapore 11-7, while Latvia defeated Germany 10-8 and Switzerland narrowly overcame Great Britain 10-9.

Defending mixed champions Germany began their bid to retain their crown with a 9-8 win over France in Pool A.
