The leading organisation of floorball in the Czech Republic has been renamed as Czech Floorball.

The decision was taken at the organisation's General Assembly in Brno, and will see the previous name, the Czech Floorball Union, become redundant.

Czech Floorball had already been used online for six years, and has been the official brand used for communication and promotion of floorball in the Czech Republic since September 2015.

However, Czech Floorball Union was still used during "administrative tasks".

The original name will now no longer be used in official records and will be replaced by Czech Floorball with its abbreviation "CF".

"Following the decision of the General Assembly, the statutory representative of Czech Floorball will carry out all the steps necessary for reporting the change regarding the relevant registry court and also will finish the transformation of the change into legislative and other internal materials,” said Tomas Frank, CF secretary general.

Founded in 1992, Czech Floorball has been a member of the International Floorball Federation since 1993.

The current Czech Floorball President is Filip Suman.

The country is set to play host to the 2018 Men's World Floorball Championships.

The tournament is due to take place in Prague between December 1 and 8 with tickets going on sale later this year.

Matches are due to take place at the O2 Arena in the capital city.

Finland defeated perennial rivals Sweden via a dramatic penalty shoot-out to win last year's World Championship, held in the Latvian capital of Riga.
