Argentina secured three gold medals in the women's categories at the AMBC American Confederation Boxing Championships in Tegucigalpa today.

Finals in the 10 women's categories were the main order of business at the Coliseum Nacional de Ingenieros in the Honduran capital, with the event set to conclude on Sunday (June 18).

Leonela Sanchez got the Argentinian team off to the best possible start as she topped the podium in the bantamweight division, beating Sara Haghighat-joo of Canada by unanimous decision.

Lucia Perez then followed in the footsteps of her team-mate, clinching the gold medal in the welterweight category by edging Nisa Rodriguez of Puerto Rico.

The judges were split in who they thought was the winner, with Perez emerging on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline.

Argentina's third triumph of the day came at light welterweight as Dayana Sanchez outclassed Stephanie Pineiro of Puerto Rico to take the title.

The United States, Canada and Colombia also enjoyed success as their boxers each claimed two golds.

Virginia Fuchs, winner of the Olympic test event prior to last year's Games in Rio de Janeiro, proved too strong for Mandy Bujold of Canada as she earned the flyweight crown.

Her compatriot Danielle Perkins also ensured she departed Tegucigalpa as the American Confederation champion as she beat Alvarado Jaritza of Nicaragua in the final of the heavyweight division.

Kim Clavel was the first Canadian to seal gold today as she overcame Venezuela Irismar Rojas to win the light flyweight title, before Tammara Thibeault battled to a split decision victory against Oshae Jones of the US to secure the middleweight crown.

Colombia's successes came thanks to Jessica Caicedo, who beat Canada's Marija Curran 4-1 in the final of the light heavyweight tournament, and Marcela Arias.

Arias proved too strong for another Canadian in Sabrina Aubin to clinch top spot on the featherweight podium.

Brazil were the other country to strike gold as Beatriz Ferreira ousted Canada's Caroline Veyre, gold medallist at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, to claim the lightweight title.
