Greece made a flying start to their EuroBasket Women campaign after beating defending champions and Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallists Serbia at the Kralovka Arena in Prague.

The Greeks claimed a 69-60 victory and are joined at the top of Group C by 2015 runners-up France, who edged Slovenia 70-68.

Also taking place at the Kralovka Arena today were the opening Group D matches as Belgium defeated Montenegro 66-64 and three-time winners Russia overcame Latvia 71-59.

The Hradec Králové Arena, meanwhile, played host to Group A and Group B clashes.

Group A saw Ukraine beat hosts Czech Republic 59-47 and Rio 2016 silver medallists Spain down Hungary 62-48.

Italy made a good start to Group B with an 80-60 win over Belarus, while Turkey did likewise by overcoming Slovakia 69-58.

Group phase action is scheduled to continue tomorrow.

The winners of each group will automatically advance to the quarter-finals, while the second and third-place teams will face a further qualification match on June 20.

Quarter-final matches will be held two days later, with the last-four encounters set to take place on June 24.

The final is scheduled for the following day, along with the third-place match.
