The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) has announced that the registration portal for this year's Olympic Day is now open to all communities across the country.

Held annually on June 23, Olympic Day is celebrated by millions of people worldwide.

It commemorates the birth of the Modern Olympic Games.

Hosts can register their event and access resources, visuals and useful documents to help them plan their very own celebrations.

"Whether it is a school event, a birthday party theme, or even a retirement home activity the portal allows this day to be your very own," the COC says in a statement.

"We encourage Canadians to get active, learn about the Olympic values and discover new sports regardless of their age, gender, social background or sporting ability.

"Tell your friends and family to share their unique experience on Facebook or Twitter using #OlympicDay."

As well as highlighting Olympic Day, June 23 sees action called towards the need to adopt and maintain healthy active lifestyles while living the Olympic values: excellence, friendship and respect.

It forms part of the Canadian Olympic School Programme.

Participants learn about the history of the Olympic Games and gain physical activity skills through fun and interactive activities.

Those interested in hosting a celebration can visit the portal here for more information.
