Nadal moved one step closer to a record 10th title at Roland Garros after he eased to a straight sets victory over Austrian starlet Dominic Thiem.

On Wednesday (June 7), Thiem decimated reigning champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia to move into the final four.

He failed to deliver a similar performance and became Nadal's latest clay court victim as the Spaniard claimed a 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 victory.

The 31-year-old is yet to drop a set in this year's tournament as he looks to secure a first Grand Slam since winning in the French capital three years ago.

Standing between Nadal and the record achievement is Wawrinka.

In a repeat of last year's semi-final match, which he lost, Wawrinka claimed a 6-7, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6, 6-1 over Great Britain's Sir Andy Murray in 4 hours and 34 minutes.

At 32 years and 75 days, he is the oldest finalist at Roland Garros since Nikola Pilic in 1973.

Wawrinka will get the chance to add a second Roland Garros title to his 2015 victory after hitting a sublime 87 winners.

Action is due to continue tomorrow with the women's final between unseeded Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and Romania's Simona Halep, who will become the world number one if she wins.
