Olympic bronze medallist Brady Ellison of the United States topped the men's recurve qualification standings on the opening day of the Archery World Cup in Antalya.

The world number five shrugged off any concerns after he only arrived in the Turkish city late last night as he shot a score of 686 at the Antalya Archery Club Field.

Ellison finished nine points in front of Frenchman Jean-Charles Valladont, who earned the silver medal at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and David Pasqualucci of Italy.

Valladont and Pasqualucci both scored 677 points.

The top eight archers in the qualification round progress straight through to the third round of eliminations, due to take place on Friday (June 9).

"I came straight from our US National Field Championships and our trials for the World Games," said Ellison.

"I ended up winning the nationals, and I shot a couple of good scores, so that was good.

"We only got in very late last night - rest is overrated!

"For the weather here and how I've been practicing, it was about where I should have shot.

"The wind picked up in that second half a bit and I made a couple of mistakes, but overall I'm happy with the result."

Double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Deepika Kumari of India led the way in the women's event with a score of 672 points.

The former world number one finished ahead of the Chinese Taipei trio of Peng Chia-mao, Tan Ya-ting and Le Chien-ying, who were second, third and fourth respectively.

In the compound discipline, the world number one leads in both the men's and women's events.

Denmark's Stephan Hansen scored 710 to beat American Steve Anderson by one point in the men's competition, while Sara Lopez of Colombia amassed 701 in the women's tournament.
