The inaugural Lithuanian Beach Sambo Open Championships have been held in the resort town of Palanga as part of the "Sport for everyone" festival.

Athletes representing seven Lithuanian cities, as well as their neighbours from Latvian city Liepāja, competed in the tournament.

Six winners were crowned, including Vilnius representatives Rokas Kaseta, Vilius Sasnauskas and Albertas Kaseta at 62 kilograms, 68kg and 74kg respectively.

Vladimir Duchin from Klaipėda triumphed at 90kg, while Liepāja’s Nikita Duinovs and Maksims Ceciotkins came away with the respective 82kg and over 90kg titles.

The competition was hosted by the Palanga Sambo Academy, which is headed by Ernestas Dorzinkevicius and Adrijus Kupstas, and attracted hundreds of spectators.  

It formed part of a wider three-day sambo festival, which also saw the eighth edition of the Stanislovas Kulikauskas international sambo tournament and cup competition held in Šiauliai.

According to the Lithuanian Sambo Federation (LSF), which provided the prizes, more than 150 athletes from six countries competed in the two-pronged event.

Vilnius’ squad, led by famous Lithuanian sambo wrestlers Sergej Grecicho and Radvilas Matukas, won the cup competition’s team event.

International seminars for both coaches and referees also took place in Šiauliai.

There were more than 20 participants at the seminar for coaches, representing Israel, Latvia, Lithuania and The Netherlands, 

They received new information regarding the nuances of coaching.

The LSF hosted this event, while International Sambo Federation (FIAS) sports director Dmitry Maksimov served as supervisor.
