The Professional Squash Association (PSA) has announced that it will trial a reduction in warm-up times at next month's Dubai World Series Finals.

The season-ending event in the United Arab Emirates city will see the warm-up period reduced from five minutes to three.

After which, players will be given 90 seconds to prepare for the start of play.

Another change will see the time between games increased from two minutes to two-and-a-half minutes, at which point play must begin immediately.

A countdown clock will be visible so both players and fans can keep track, while announcements will be made by the referee confirming how much time is left.

"Squash is a vibrant and dynamic sport and we feel that altering the time taken during the warm-up period and game intervals will improve the flow of the matches for spectators and TV audiences," said PSA chief operating officer Lee Beachill.

"We believe that this trial period will be an important step into further increasing the sport's visual appeal and look forward to witnessing the effects of the trial during what promises to be a world-class week of squash in Dubai."

Only the top eight players in each of the men's and women's rankings qualify for the World Series Finals, making it one of the most prestigious prizes in squash.

The field is split into two groups of four before semi-finals and the final are played.

An equal prize purse of $160,000 (£126,000/€150,000) will be on offer for both genders, with action taking place at Dubai Opera House between June 6 and 10.

France's Gregor Gaultier and England's Laura Massaro are the defending champions.
