FIFA's Member Associations Committee are due to discuss whether to give current Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) head Faisal Saleh Hayat a further two years to address ongoing issues within the governing body.

They had initially handed politican Hayat, who has been at the PFF helm since 2003, a two-year mandate to ratify the PFF's statutes and conduct fresh elections back in September 2015.

It came following accusations of financial corruption and election rigging, which Hayat has denied.

The deadline from world football's governing body is due to expire later this year, with reports claiming the PFF has made little progress under its current leadership.

The statutes remain the same, according to Pakistan's English-language newspaper DAWN.

Earlier this month, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) called on FIFA to grant the PFF an extension to 2019.

"A request should be made to FIFA to extend the current mandate to the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) to June 2019 so that meaningful reforms can be undertaken and that FIFA and the AFC hold a joint revision workshop for PFF stakeholders," an AFC statement read.

"The Executive Committee also agreed that a high-level delegation should meet the Pakistani government and apprise them of the severe consequences of external interference and the Executive Committee reiterated its position of opposition to Government interference in the running of the sport."

FIFA have since confirmed they are considering the proposal.

"The matter that you are referring to will be submitted for the review of FIFA Member Associations Committee," FIFA said in a statement.

"Please understand that no further comment is possible at this stage."

The PFF has been plagued by in-fighting and a legal battle after a faction opposed to the Hayat regime emerged.

As a result of the persistent troubles within the PFF, Pakistan has been unable to send teams to major tournaments and has also failed to stage top-flight domestic competition.
