Azerbaijan's Hanna Skydan delighted her home crowd by winning gold in the women's hammer throw on the opening day of athletics at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku.

Skydan, who also won gold at the 2015 European Games in the Azeri capital, threw a season's best of 75.29 metres to clinch gold at Baku's Olympic Stadium.

Turkey's Kivilcim Kaya Salman finished second on 67.41m while the bronze medal went to Morocco's Soukaina Zakkour with 63.10m.

Senegal's Sangone Kandji took the gold in the women's triple jump final.

She produced an opening round jump of 13.05m, which proved good enough to secure first place.

Cameroon's Joelle Mbumi Nkouindjin, who was seventh in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games final, finished second with a best jump of 12.84m.

Azerbaijan's Yekaterina Sariyeva produced a fourth-round jump of 12.81m to sneak into medal position and match her 2015 European Games bronze.

Mustaafa Alsaamah of Iraq was victorious in the men's discus event.

The 21-year-old launched a personal best throw of 60.89m in the fifth round clinch gold.

Iran's Ehsan Hadadi had led with a fourth-round throw of 60.54m, but he ended up settling for silver.

Saudi Arabia's Sultan Aldawodi finished third with 58.63m.

Andrew Fisher of Bahrain made it through to the final of the men's 100m.

He produced the fastest semi-final time of 10.22sec.

One of the favourites for the gold medal, Femi Ogunode of Qatar, also made it through but could only manage second place behind Turkey's Ramil Guliev

Omani sprinter Barakat Al-Harthi and Iran's Hassan Taftian also qualified.

In shooting action, Ruslan Lunev of Azerbaijan claimed his fourth gold medal of the Games after he won the men's 10m air pistol event at the Baku Shooting Centre.

Lunev, who had earlier taken gold in the 25m centre-fire pistol, 25m rapid fire pistol and the 25m standard pistol, scored 240.7 to beat 2015 European Games silver medallist Yusef Dikec of Turkey, who finished on 239.7.

Pakistan's Muhammad Shehzad Akhtar finished in bronze medal position on 218.6.

Saied Almutairi clinched gold in the men's skeet final.

The 48-year-old finished ahead of United Arab Emirates duo Shaikh Saeed Al Maktoum and Saif Bin Futais on 47.

Al Maktoum took silver on 45 while Bin Futais completed the podium on 38.

Egyptian weightlifter Mohamed Mahmoud eased to victory in the men's under-77 kilogram category to claim his country's fourth gold of the Games.

Mahmoud won with a Games record total of 348kg, 28kg clear of the rest of the field at Shuvelan district's Weightlifting Arena.

The 27-year-old broke the African snatch record while winning bronze at last summer's Rio 2016 Oympics.

Ahmed Farooq Ghulam Al-Hussein finished second on 320kg while Turkey's Celil Erdogdu completed the podium on 319kg.
