A host of European broadcasters gathered in Swiss city Zurich for the International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup meeting.

A number of television producers representing central European and Nordic broadcasters, as well as the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Infront Sports & Media, gathered for two days of meetings.

The meeting, which featured two half-day sessions, included updates from race directors of the Olympic FIS disciplines.

They each provided a review of last season before discussing any foreseen changes for the upcoming campaign.

The EBU and Infront, as rights holders for FIS World Cup competitions, also gave reports from the past season.

On the opening day there were discussions on how to best optimise the broadcasting of FIS events, including presentation, scheduling and the more efficient use of digital platforms.

On the second day of the meeting, those in attendance were able to give input on ideal broadcast times for next season's races, to avoid potential conflict with other television obligations.

The calendars for the upcoming seasons of all FIS disciplines are due to be finalised and approved at the upcoming technical meetings and ensuing Council meeting in Portoroz in Slovenia.

This is due to take place between May 24 and 28.

It was announced last month that more than 25,000 athletes took part in competitions sanctioned by the FIS during the 2016-17 season.

During the course of the season, the FIS ran five World Championships and six Junior World Championships.

The sport best represented during 2016-17 campaign was Alpine skiing, which saw 8,813 athletes participate.
