The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that Kingfisher will be the official lager of this year's Champions Trophy.

It means the beer will be supplied at all three venues which will be used at the tournament in England and Wales - Edgbaston in Birmingham, The Oval in London and Cardiff's Sophia Gardens.

Kingfisher, an Indian lager sold in curry restaurants throughout the UK, will also be served at the ICC Champions Trophy Fan Parks.

Action at the 50-over tournament will take place between June 1 and 18.

"We are pleased to welcome Kingfisher to the ICC Champions Trophy family of partners," said the ICC's general manager Campbell Jamieson.

"Kingfisher is an iconic brand that has a long standing association with cricket.

"It will resonate with our global fan base and we will be working hard across the venues and the Fan Park to deliver the best possible exposure throughout the event.

"Kingfisher's premium brand positioning and its Indian heritage makes it a superb fit for cricket and the ICC.

"Our commercial programme continues to go from strength to strength with significant interest from a wide range of global brands keen to connect with cricket fans around the world."

Hosts England will clash with Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh at the tournament.

India, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka will contest Group B.

"Nothing could be more Indian than watching a cricket match with a cold, crisp pint of Kingfisher and we are extremely excited about bringing this experience to this summer’s ICC Champions Trophy," said Kingfisher Beer Europe's chief executive Damon Swarbick.

"The partnership also gives our target consumers the perfect opportunity to re-evaluate the brand outside of Kingfisher's normal usage occasion in Indian restaurants."
