Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been asked to give evidence as part of a corruption investigation.

The 23-year-old who has played three Tests and nine One-Day Internationals for his country was officially summoned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) yesterday to appear before their Security and Vigilance Department.

It comes as the PCB continue to look into spot-fixing allegations involving several players during the second season of the Pakistan Super League, a domestic Twenty20 competition.

The PCB have not said whether Nawaz, who has also played five Twenty20 Internationals, has been accused of any wrongdoing.

“Pakistan Cricket Board’s Security and Vigilance Department has today issued a Notice of Demand to Cricketer, Mohammad Nawaz in continuation of its fight against the menace of corruption in cricket,” a PCB statement said.

“This Notice of Demand has been issued under Article 4.3 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code and requires Nawaz to appear before the PCB Security and Vigilance Department for an interview in relation to possible breaches of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code.

“Due to the sensitivity of the matters under question PCB shall not make any additional comments at this stage.”

Proceedings have already been opened against suspended players Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Nasir Jamshed and Shahzaib Hassan, with all four being provisionally suspended.

Jamshed was arrested by the National Crime Agency in Great Britain along with two other men, although the trio were later released on bail.

Another player, Zulfiqar Babar, has also been questioned by the PCB.

Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan, who has played 60 ODIs for Pakistan, has already been banned for a year after admitting to not informing the authorities of two approaches made to him by bookmakers.

Six months of this suspension will be suspended should Irfan, who is 7ft 1in tall, follow a series of conditions.
