Olympic gold medallist Hasanboy Dusmatov comfortably progressed to the semi-finals of the light flyweight division at the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Championships in Tashkent.

The home favourite moved a step closer to defending his Asian title with a unanimous demolition of Zhomart Yerzhan of Kazakhstan at the Uzbekistan Sports Complex.

The 23-year-old is one of the star attractions at the tournament and his win over his Kazakh opponent guarantees a podium finish.

India's Amit Phangal awaits for Dusmatov in tomorrow's semi-finals after he made light work of Cornelis Kwangu Langu of Indonesia.

Phangal, who will go into his last four clash with Dusmatov as the clear outsider, put in an impressive display and was awarded the contest on four of the five judges' scorecards.

Shiva Thapa, World Championships bronze medallist in 2011, added to the Indian success on day four as he progressed to the semi-finals of the lightweight division.

Thapa ensured he would clinch his third successive medal at the continental event after he won gold in 2013 and bronze in 2013 by beating Chinese Taipei's Chu-En Lai.

The 23-year-old, who won a silver medal at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore at bantamweight, controlled proceedings against Chu and eventually sealed a win which set up a meeting with top seed Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu.

The Mongolian booked his semi-final berth by virtue of another straightforward victory, this time over Adilet Kurmetov of Kazakhstan.

Olympic bronze medallist Dorjnyambuu, who carried his country's flag at the Closing Ceremony of last year's Games in Rio de Janeiro, progressed in style as he stopped his opponent early in the first round.

Ikboljon Kholdarov put in one of the performances of the day as he knocked out Chinese Taipei's Pan Hung-ming in their light welterweight bout.

Places at the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) World Championships, being held in Hamburg between August 25 and September 3, are up for grabs.
