Scotland, Switzerland and the United States completed the round robin stage of the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships after wins today in Lethbridge, Canada.

All three were already guaranteed places in the last 16 of the competition being played at the ATB Centre, but the teams finished their group matches in style.

In Group D, the US saw off hosts Canada 8-6, with a take-out from Rebecca Hamilton in first end giving them an early 4-0 lead.

Canada were level again by the end of the third end, but their rivals were able to edge in front again and Hamilton made sure of no extra end as she gained a point with the game’s last stone.

Scotland took on Italy in Group B and defeated them 8-4 in a game which they took control of after the halfway point.

New Zealand were the opponents for Switzerland in Group E and a three point start saw them maintain the lead throughout the encounter, which eventually finished 7-4.

The remaining spaces in the next round were determined during today’s morning and afternoon sessions.

Finland earned their progress from Group A after beating Japan 6-4 while Sweden’s 8-2 victory of The Netherlands saw them qualify out of Group C.

During the afternoon, Spain defeated Slovakia 8-5 in Group E to reach the last 16 and Norway secured a spot by winning 10-4 against Ireland in Group B.

The Irish still progressed though courtesy of having the best draw challenge result of all the teams who finished fourth in the groups.

The morning’s other matches saw China win 9-3 against Poland, South Korea edge Israel 9-8 and England beat Germany 9-6.

Australia won 9-5 against Austria in the afternoon while Slovenia saw off Romania’s challenge with a 7-4 victory.

Serbia and Denmark played out a high scoring match which the latter won 13-6.

Bulgaria picked up a victory the day’s other scheduled match without a stone being thrown after Wales failed to raise a side.

Matches in tomorrow’s morning session of the last 16 will see South Korea play Ireland, Russia take on China, Latvia face Sweden and Scotland meet Canada.

Then in the afternoon, the Swiss have a tie with Spain, Norway will play Italy, the Czech Republic face Hungary and the US are taking on Finland.

The quarter-finals will take place later the same day, with the losing sides from the last 16 will face each other in a series of play-offs.
