The El Salvador Olympic Committee (ESNOC) welcomed five school students to speak about sport and physical education.

The quintet all attend the Lamatepec School in capital city San Salvador and were greeted by ESNOC President Eduardo Palomo.

All of the pupils collected information about "traditional" and "non-traditional" sports as well as the history of national and international sport.

An exhibition featuring what they learnt will be held in the school on June 9 and 10.

"The mission of the federations should be to promote their sport, through the formation of clubs, work in schools and communities," said Paolomo.

"Good volunteer leaders are also needed.

"In the country there is talent and good athletes, like the beach soccer team who are a great example of perseverance and humility.

"I encouraged the group to have a good diet, start the day with a glass of milk, study and practice sport." 

El Salvador are still waiting for their first Olympic medal of any colour.

At the Rio 2016 Games in August, shooter Lilian Castro served as flagbearer before finishing 44th in the qualification round of the women's 10 metres air pistol.

Joining Castro at Rio 2016 were seven other athletes - race walkers Luis Lopez and Yesenia Miranda, judoka Juan Diego Turcios, laser sailor Enrique Arathoon, swimmers Marcelo Acosta and Rebeca Quinteros and weightlifter Julio Salamanca.
