Belarus' Kanstantsin Kurouski marked the end of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth World Championships in Thailand's capital Bangkok by winning the men's over-94 kilograms gold medal today.
Kurouski won the snatch with a lift of 165kg and despite coming third in the clean and jerk with 195kg, it was enough to secure overall victory with 360kg.
Russia's Dmitrii Gogichaev took overall silver with 352kg after finishing third in the snatch with 155kg and second in the clean and jerk with 197kg.
Rounding out the podium with 347kg was Iran's Mohammadreza Roshani, the runner-up in the snatch with 156kg and fourth-place finisher in the clean and jerk with 191kg.
Compatriot Mohammad Shahabandaz won the clean and jerk with 205kg, but could only manage a fourth-place finish overall with 347kg having finished seventh in the snatch with 142kg.
The other men's event held today was in the 94kg category, which saw Bulgaria's Hristo Dimitrov Hristov come out on top with a total of 321kg.
Hristov won both the snatch and the clean and jerk with respective lifts of 145kg and 176kg.
Greece's Evangelos Galiatsatos was the overall runner-up with 316kg, thanks to the second-best snatch lift of 144kg and the fourth-best clean and jerk lift of 172kg.
Third place was occupied by Uzbekistan’s Aleksandr Li, who finished in the same position in the snatch with 138kg and the clean and jerk with 173kg for an overall total of 311kg.
Fellow countryman Saidmukhtor Saidakhrorov came second in the clean and jerk with 175kg, but finished fourth overall with 305kg having only managed the eighth-best lift of 130kg in the snatch.
There was also success today for Russia’s Daria Riazanova in the women's over-75kg with a total of 223kg, beating Austrian Sarah Fischer by a margin of 5kg.
Riazanova''s best snatch lift of 98kg left her trailing Fischer by 1kg at the halfway stage, but her best clean and jerk lift of 125kg was 6kg better than that of her Austrian counterpart and was enough to overturn the deficit.
The United States' Kuinini Juanita Mechteld Manumua finished third overall with 210kg having come third in the snatch with 93kg and fifth in the clean and jerk with 117kg.
Home favourite Supatchanin Khamhaeng took third place in the clean and jerk with 118kg, but she finished fifth overall with 208kg after coming sixth in the snatch with 90kg.
