The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) has provided 50 sets of free kit to the Vietnamese Sambo Association, which it is hoped will aid the development, training and participation of the country's athletes in future competitions.

According to TASS, the Russian Embassy in Vietnam organised the transfer and delivery of jackets, shorts, shoes and five sets of referee outfits.

"Nowadays sambo is being developed in 120 countries throughout the world, including Vietnam," Constantine Vnukov, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam, said at the presentation ceremony.

Sambo featured on the sports programme when Vietnamese city Danang staged the 2016 Asian Beach Games.

The host nation's team came second in the sport's medal standings, claiming one gold, two silvers and two bronzes.

The sole gold came courtesy of Nguyen Thị Nhu Y in the women's over 72 kilograms competition, which saw compatriot Ha Thị Nga claim one of the two bronze medals.

Huynh Nhat Thong and Nguyen Thị Ngọc Han finished runners-up in the respective men's 62kg and women's 56kg categories, while Nguyen Thị Lan was a women's 64kg bronze medallist.

"Although the Vietnamese Sambo Association is a fairly new organisation, its trainees demonstrate quite good results," Vnukov added.

Vuong Binh Thanh, the head of the main sport department at the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, thanked FIAS for its support and assistance in sports development in the SRV.
