Iliana Iotova, the vice president of Bulgaria, met with World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) President Chungwon Choue to discuss the growth of the sport in the country.

Choue has travelled to the Bulgarian capital Sofia for the ongoing European Under-21 Championships.

The city is also bidding to stage the 2018 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final.

Among the topics for discussion were plans to open a regional WTF training facility in Sofia, which could be used by athletes and officials across Eastern Europe.

Another plan is to bring taekwondo to schools in Bulgaria, a country which has never competed in the sport at the Olympic Games.

Choue has also met with Daniela Dasheva, the Minister of Youth and Sports, during his trip and he is scheduled to spend time with Pencho Geshev, President of Bulgarian Sports Academy.

"I was grateful that the vice president and Minister of Youth and Sports showed great support for the sport of taekwondo," said the South Korean.

"I trust that the new regional training centre will serve as an excellent training hub for neighbouring countries."
