South Korea claimed bragging rights at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s World Championships Division II Group A after beating neighbours North Korea today.

Goals from Lee Eunji, Park Ye Eun and Jo Su Sie saw the hosts win 3-0 in the Gangneung Hockey Center.

The tournament is being staged their alongside the IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championships Division II Group A as a test event for next year’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

There were two other games played in the women’s competition today, both at the Kwandong Hockey Center.

Opening proceedings at the venue was a clash between Slovenia and Great Britain, which the latter won 8-2.

They were 4-0 up by the end of the first period with goals from Leanne Ganney, Saffron Allen and a Kathryn Marsden double.

Katie Henry scored two in the second either side of a Casey Traill strike to make it 7-0.

Slovenia rallied back in the final period with consolation goals from Pia Pren and Sara Confidenti after Georgina Farman made it 8-0.

The Netherlands then secured a 3-1 win over Australia in the next match.

Mieneke de Jong, Nicky Tjin-a-Ton and Kayleigh Hamers got the Dutch side’s goals before Katherine McOnie pulled one back for the Australians.

Action will continue tomorrow as the men’s competition heads back onto the ice.

Hosts South Korea will face Estonia in Kwandong while Britain take on Romania and Croatia meet Lithuania in Gangneung.
