Pyeongchang 2018 have announced that the workforce at next year's Winter Olympics and Paralympics will be known as "Passion Crew".

The name will unite all staff and volunteers at the Games in South Korea, organisers have claimed.

More than 87,000 people will be members of the Passion Crew in all, with around 56,000 working during the Olympic Games between February 9 and 25.

The Paralympic Games, between March 9 and 18, will feature 31,000 workers.

Passion Crew has been chosen as the name to contemplate Pyeongchang 2018's "Passion.Connected" slogan.

"The Passion Crew will be the face of the Games along with the hundreds of athletes that will be competing for glory next year," said Pyeongchang 2018 President Lee Hee-beom.

"By giving this collective group a name, it creates unity in their efforts and a 'one-team' ethos throughout all 54 functional areas.

"Staff and volunteers will unite under this title and we want everyone to feel a sense of pride and passion at being part of Pyeongchang 2018."

Members of the Passion Crew will be taught welcome gestures and messages to interact with athletes and fans at the Games.

"Ari-ari" - a Korean word used to cheer on sports teams - will be used, with the English translation "making a road when there is no road".

It will be accompanied by an action which will see Passion Crew members raise their arms in the air and open and close their fists twice.

"This is a strong message to help the crew get through busy days, challenging situations, and unite in moments of celebration," a Pyeongchang 2018 statement said.

Another phrase used will be "Hello-crew" - which is seen as a "friendly gesture amongst colleagues and the younger generation of people attending the Games".

This will be accompanied by fist bumping, described as a "positive and fun action that will get people engaged with others and having fun".

All members of the Passion Crew will be dressed in the same uniform, which will be unveiled towards the end of the year.

Training for South Korean volunteers began this month, with international volunteers due to be selected in the coming weeks.
