Gold Coast 2018 have targeted having temporary seats installed at the Carrara Stadium by the end of February, two months before the Commonwealth Games are due to start.

The venue is scheduled to stage both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as athletics competitions.

Currently the venue can hold 25,000 spectators, but additional seating is to be installed to take the capacity up to 40,000 for the Games.

Gold Coast 2018 venue manager Charles Quelch confirmed to insidethegames at the World Press Briefing that the aim for completion of the temporary work is February.

A temporary athletics track is also set to be installed, with organisers aiming to trial and test the work after its completion.

The Games are due to begin on April 4.

Gold Coast 2018 are scheduled to take control of the venue in September when work will commence as the countdown continues towards the Games.

The venue, commercially known as the Metricon Stadium, is currently home to the Gold Coast Suns Australian Football League team.

The conclusion of the AFL season in September will allow Gold Coast 2018 to move into the stadium and start work.

It forms a key part of the Carrara Precinct for the Games, where 20 per cent of competition venues are to be located.

This includes the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre, which will host badminton, Para-powerlifting, weightlifting and wrestling.

Gold Coast 2018 revealed they expect all permanent venues to be completed in the coming weeks, with work drawing to a conclusion at the Belmont Shooting Centre in Brisbane and at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre.
