Trudy Mickel and Jack Kariotis of the United States claimed the women's and men's moguls titles respectively on day two of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Junior Freestyle World Championships in Valmalenco.

Mickel produced a score of 69.01 points which was enough to secure the gold medal.

Her nearest rival was Anastasia Smirnova of Russia, who clinched the silver with her score of 67.30.

Olivia Giaccio joined her compatriot Mickel on the podium as she was given a score of 66.89, which saw her finish in third position.

There was further American success later in the day as Kariotis secured the men's crown with his score of 75.04.

Kariotis improved upon his fourth place finish in last year's edition of the Championships which were held in the resort of Åre in Sweden.

He finished over 2.5 points clear of second place, Great Britain's Thomas Gerken Schofield, who was awarded a score of 72.12.

Loke Nilsson of Sweden rounded off the top three as he secured the bronze medal with a total of 68.98.

Tomorrow, the men's and women's dual moguls titles will be decided.
