Taekwondo New Zealand (TNZ) President Tae Kyung Kim has encouraged members of the national governing body to put themselves forward as interim members of the newly formed District Boards during his update for April.

The body is seeking applicants from within its membership and outside of the sport to lodge "Expressions of Interest" to take up an interim position on one of the District Boards.

There are five districts in total: Auckland, BOP/Waikato/Taranaki, Wellington, Upper South Island, Lower South Island.

Each District will have a minimum of three and up to a maximum of five interim Board members.

The main objectives of each Board will be to liaise with local clubs and TNZ in organising district based development seminars, accreditation courses and competitions for members.

They will also be tasked with moving the clubs towards holding their first elections for the District Boards.

At election time the interim Board members will need to step down and if they wish will be able to run for a position alongside other nominated candidates.

Any current member who would like to be considered for an interim position can do so now with the application process set to close on April 21.

Kim was re-elected as President of TNZ in November.

The Grandmaster was voted back in for another term during elections at an Extraordinary General Meeting at the Avondale College Gymnasium in Auckland.

Senior vice president Han Hyoun Lee, another grandmaster, was also re-elected.

The organisation is currently preparing for the TNZ Open, due to be held in Auckland in May.

A first for the country, the international event will be a G2 world ranking tournament.

Action is due to take place at the North Shore Events Centre on May 13 and 14.
