New Zealand and Paraguay to play host to major IWRF events ©IWRF

Auckland in New Zealand and Paraguayan capital Asunción have been announced as hosts for major International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) events scheduled for later this year.

Auckland will play host to the IWRF Asia-Oceania Championship for the first time from August 24 to September 1.

It will mark the third time in which New Zealand will play host to the event after Christchurch did so in 2001 and 2009.

The winner will qualify for next year's World Championships in Sydney.

The 2017 IWRF Americas Championship will be held in Asunción from September 3 to 10.

It will mark the first time an IWRF event has taken place in Paraguay and the first time in six years that the regional event is taking place in South America.

Ten nations are expected to compete, with the top two finishers earning spots at the World Championship.

A host is yet to be named for a final World Championship qualifier set to take place in early 2018.
