A partnership agreement has been signed between the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Japan and Finland.

The agreement, which was signed at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo, will see both parties actively support officials, staff, athletes and coaches in an attempt to establish exchange programmes and opportunities.

It is also hoped it will allow for the exchange of marketing knowledge and information, and the sharing of information on the Olympic Movement.

A Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) statement said: "To achieve these goals, both parties will regularly exchange information and good practices."

Among those in attendance at the signing ceremony were Finnish Olympic Committee (FOK) President Timo Ritakallio and JOC counterpart Tsunekazu Takeda, who is also an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member.

They were joined by FOK secretary general Teemu Japisson and three other representatives of the JOC; vice-president Tsuyoshi Aoki, secretary general Eisuke Hiraoka and vice-president for international affairs Yasuo Saito.

Guests included Jukka Siukosaari, ambassador of the Embassy of Finland to Japan, and Jugo Imaizumi, director of the international affairs division at the Japan Sports Agency.

Also present were Ryosuke Ando, assistant director of the Secretariat for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games headquarters, and Toshiaki Murasato, executive director of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee's international relations bureau.

The JOC has already signed similar agreements with 41 NOCs.

A partnership agreement was signed between the JOC and the Slovak Olympic Committee earlier this month.
