As a result of finishing second in section one of the men's draw, Henry was forced into a play-off match at his home tournament against compatriot Curtis Hanley.

Henry, who has won this tournament on four occasions, claimed a comfortable 8-7, 14-1 win.

He will now take on Scotland's Ronnie Duncan, who finished in top spot in section one on 36 points, in tomorrow's semi-finals.

New Zealand's Ali Forsyth also reached the last four after he finished in first place in the section two standings on 33 points.

His opponent will be Malaysia's Soufi Rusli, who came from behind to defeat South Africa's Pierre Breitenbach in the other play-off match.

The South African took the opening set 12-3 before Rusli won the second 11-4.

The Malaysian then secured his place in the semi-finals by taking the decisive third set 3-1.

In the women's singles event, Guernsey's Lucy Beere and Nor Hashima Ismail of Malaysia joined double world champion Natasha Scott of Australia and New Zealand's Jo Edwards in the last four.

Scott and Edwards had already qualified after finishing top of sections one and two respectively.

Beere, who finished second in section one, defeated Scotland's Lesley Doig 9-8, 6-8, 2-1 to set up a semi-final with Scott.

In today's other play-off match, Ismail defeated Ronalyn Greenlees of The Philippines 10-5, 8-5.

She will now compete against Edwards for a place in the final.

The semi-finals are due to take place tomorrow and Wednesday (March 22) morning before the World Cup draws to a close with both finals on Wednesday afternoon.
