A black table which will be used at this year's International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Championships in Dusseldorf has been unveiled.

The table has been revealed by Double Happiness (DHS), the official table suppliers for the flagship tournament in the German city.

It has been created with the theme "Black is Bold" and is the latest addition to the "Rainbow" range of tables made by DHS.

As well as the black surface, the table also features an arch design which is said to represent the "connection of continents" at the World Championships, as well as the arc the ball takes during a game.

Red and yellow are featured underneath the playing surface - the other colours on the German flag along with black.

"DHS has been an important partner for the ITTF for many years," said ITTF marketing and commercial director Steve Dainton.

"In 2005, they introduced the "Rainbow Table" which was a revolution in show court tables.

"This year they keep their icon but with a bold new table top colour, black, and combine it with the German national colours.

"A sleek look which shows how strong design mixed with amazing colours can help showcase the sport of table tennis at the highest level."

Action will take place at the Messe Dusseldorf between May 29 and June 5.

"The show court table for the 2017 World Table Tennis Championships is based on the design of the 2015 event Rainbow Table," said DHS general manager Lou Shihe.

"Its overview becomes much more stereoscopic and layered with the fusion of the German flag element and the event logo, illuminated by the LED light system.

"In this case, the whole table takes on a good combination of its visual identity and colour, blending if it is shot at a lower angle and closer distance to bring about a fresh experience for spectators."
