Switzerland's Roger Federer will face compatriot Stan Wawrinka in the final of the Indian Wells Masters tomorrow after both players won their respective semi-finals in California.

Wawrinka, who has won three Grand Slam titles in his career, will be competing in his first Indian Wells final.

The Swiss pair have met 22 times before with Wawrinka only winning on three occasions.

It will be the first men's final to be contested by players from the same country since 2001, when the United States' Andre Agassi defeated his compatriot Pete Sampras on home soil.

Wawrinka brushed aside Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta, the world number 23, 6-3, 6-2 in his semi-final.

Federer, who has won 18 Grand Slam singles titles in his career, has won this event four times and saw off Jack Sock of the US 6-1, 7-6.

"I think I definitely played great in the first set," said Federer.

"I came out and really saw the ball well.

"I think Jack didn't have his best first set, but I found a way to take advantage of that quickly, hardly made any mistakes and was able to press.

"The second set was more like what I expected the first set to be, to be quite honest, before the match.

"It was hard to break and return well off Jack's heavy serve.

"Things got a bit more complicated, but it was definitely a good feeling to get through in two sets and to be back in another final here."

In tomorrow's women's singles final, Russia's Elena Vesnina will take on her compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Vesnina comfortably defeated Kristina Mladenovic of France 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-finals yesterday while Kuznetsova, who last reached the Indian Wells final in 2008, defeated the Czech Republic's third seed Karolína Plíšková 7-6, 7-6.

Following the conclusion of the Indian Wells Masters, action will begin at the Miami Open.

Sir Andy Murray, the world number one, has withdrawn from the men's singles tournament after suffering an elbow injury.

The Scot was eliminated from Indian Wells by world number 129 Vasek Pospisil of Canada, and will now miss the following tournament due to take place between March 22 and April 2 at the Crandon Park Tennis Centre.

"Sadly, due to a right elbow injury, I won't be playing in Miami," said Murray.

"Apologies to the fans, it's one of my favourite tournaments.

"The focus now is on getting ready for the clay season."
