Ben Nunoo Mensah has been elected as the new President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) after defeating Francis Dodoo, who had held the position since 2011.

Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), polled 33 votes to his rival's 28 during the election at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

Dodoo, a former triple jumper who represented Ghana at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, had succeeded Benson Tongo Baba in October 2011.

Nunoo Mensah's manifesto, The Renaissance - Let’s get our sports working again, had 19 key points identified to help revive sport in the West African country.

These included creating a transparent and accountable GOC, involving all key stakeholders.
