Brazil booked their place in the men’s and women’s World Group at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup, after winning both qualification events in Quito, Ecuador.

The Brazilian women’s team were the first to secure a spot in the World Group by winning the deciding qualifying match against Argentina.

Meirycoll Duval and Natalia Mayara triumphed in their singles matches against Argentina’s Florencia Moreno and Antonella Pralong to wrap up a 2-0 win.

Duval lost the opening set of her match with Moreno but hit back to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Mayara secured a 6-2, 6-0 win over Pralong.

The Brazilian men’s team would replicate the achievement, as they triumphed in both single matches of their final against the United States.

Rafael Medeiros produced a near faultless display as he cruised past Chris Herman, beating the American 6-0, 6-1.

The victory was completed by Daniel Rodrigues, as he achieved a 6-2, 6-2 win over Casey Ratzlaff.

The doubles rubber was set to be played despite the tie having been decided, but it ultimately was called off due to the threat of bad weather.

Chile ended third in the event by beating Colombia 2-0, while hosts Ecuador defeated Cuba by the same score.

Both the World Group events will take place in Sardinia, which will take place from May 1 to 7.

Brazil will be joined by Tanzania and Thailand, who won the qualifiers for Africa and Asia in the men’s competition.

Kenya are the only other regional qualifier for the women’s event at this stage, with European qualification scheduled to take place between March 21 and 25 in Portugal.
