A potential Innsbruck bid for the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games is "real" prospect it has been claimed after Karl Stoss was re-elected for a third term as President of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC).

Stoss, who replaced Leo Wallner in 2009, stood unopposed for a fresh four-year tenure until 2021.

The 60-year-old was appointed a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last year.

Elisabeth Max-Theurer, an Olympic gold medallist in dressage at Moscow 1980, was re-elected to one of the three vice-presidential positions during an Annual General Meeting in Vienna.

Former European Ski Federation President Peter Schröcksnadel and Austrian Cycling Association boss Otto Flum returned to their vice-president posts.

Peter Mennel will remain secretary general.

A feasibility study is currently being carried out to assess the prospects of a bid from Innsbruck for 2026.

"The study will be completed in late May, from then on we’ll be able to have serious discussions," Mennel told the meeting.

"In general: the time for a bid hasn’t been so good for a while as it is now for 2026 - the chances are surely real."

Stoss, the managing director of Casinos Austria AG,  a gaming corporation that owns and operates casinos around the world, also spoke about Austria's preparations for Pyeongchang 2026.

"It’s all about improving the circumstances for our top athletes and their coaches," he said.

"In the long run, we must define our objectives together with all the people in charge."

It is hoped that a team of between 105 and 115 athletes will compete at Pyeongchang 2018.

They will be seeking to improve on the four gold, eight silver and five bronze medals they won at Sochi 2014.

Federations for baseball, climbing and karate were also added as official ÖOC members during the meeting following their inclusion on the programme for Tokyo 2020.

Dieter Kalt, who ended a 20 year tenure as Austrian Ice Hockey Federation President last year, was also elected as an honorary ÖOC member.
