The two coaches in charge of the Russian bandy teams involved in a match surrounded by controversy have both been suspended for a period of 30 months.

The Russian Super League game in the northern city of Arkhangelsk ended in an 11-9 win for Baikal-Energiya against Vodnik.

However, all 20 goals were scored in the teams' own nets rather than their opponent’s.

With just under a quarter of the contest remaining, Vodnik's Oleg Pivovarov put three goals into the back of his own net.

Baikal-Energiya responded with nine own goals of their own, only for Pivovarov to put eight more past his own defence.

Russian Bandy Federation (RBF) President and President of the Federation of International Bandy (FIB), Boris Skrynnik, accused Vodnik of ensuring they played "against a convenient team" in the upcoming play-offs.

Had Vodnik won, it would have faced the League’s reigning champion Yenisey Krasnoyarsk.

It has been ruled by the RBF's Disciplinary Committee that Igor Gapanovich and Evgeny Erakhtin, the respective coaches of Vodnik and Baikal-Energy, will both serve 30 month bans.

Both clubs have also been fined for 300,000 rubles (£4,100/$5,100/€4,800).

The match is now set to be replayed tomorrow at a neutral stadium in the Moscow Region, the RBF have said.

Bandy, a winter sport played on ice in which skaters use sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal, was officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2001.

It featured as a demonstration sport at the 1952 Winter Olympic Games in Norway’s capital Oslo.

The sport is also hopeful of eventually securing a place on the Winter Olympic programme, with FIB President Skrynnik revealing last year that they would pursue an attempt for Beijing 2022.
