The two-time junior world champion and runner-up at the World Championships in Innsbruck led by 71 points going into today's final race.

Repilov crossed the line in a time of 1 min 47.237 secs, giving him a third stage win of the season, to move onto a total score of 845 points.

Until today, the first and only Russian to have finished top of the overall standings was the three-time Olympic silver medallist Albert Demchenko, who won in the winter of 2004-2005.

“This victory proves that we are on the right path," said Repilov.

"This trophy really means a lot to me because I have never finished top of the season before.

"I think that I will be able to celebrate a few more victories like this in the future and hope that I will be able to win Olympic gold next year.”

Felix Loch of Germany, the former World Cup title holder and Sochi 2014 Olympic champion, finished second today in 1:47.698 to move into second position in the World Cup standings on 748.

Third place today was claimed by another German, Johannes Ludwig, in 1:48.037.

Austria's Wolfgang Kindl completed the top three in the overall World Cup standings as he took seventh today in 1:48.276 to finish on 700 for the campaign.

Repilov's team-mate Semen Pavlichenko started today in second place in the World Cup leaderboard but endured a disastrous day in Altenberg.

He finished 29th in 1:51.623 to collect a mere 12 World Cup points which left him on a total of 686 to leave him in fourth place overall.

In today's pairs event, the German duo of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken, who had already been named as overall winners prior to the final race, secured their ninth win of the season in a time of 1:23.768. 

The American duo of Matt Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman finished in second today in 1:24.126 while Germany's Robin Geueke and David Gamm rounded out the podium in 1:24.167.

Sochi 2014 champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt of Germany finished second in the overall World Cup but finished in a disappointing 13th today after suffering a poor start to their run.

Action will draw to a close tomorrow with the women's race and the team relay.

The women's title has already been won by Sochi 2014 Olympic champion Natalie Geisenberger of Germany for the fifth time.

The victory brought her level with record-breaking winners Silke Kraushaar-Pielach and Tatjana Hüfner, both also of Germany.

There was further German dominance in the relay World Cup as they won the title for the seventh consecutive time.
